Alexa Courtney lives in Palmyra, NY and is currently a senior math major at Nazareth College, and is book keeper and accountant for The Self Made Men. As an ally and treasurer of Lambda, the gay-straight alliance at her school, she has helped plan many of their events on campus.
The Trans* community is a fairly new experience for her, but is enjoying the chance to educate others on these issues with her boyfriend, Jason and the rest of the staff. Together, they have attended the Rochester Trans* Group meetings each month as well as Rochester Pride events, panels and group discussions all over Rochester. This summer she went on the Boys of Summer tour with fellow staff members to attend pride events all over NY State. She also attended the Philly Trans Health Conference for the first time in May. She is excited to have more opportunities to work with the Trans* community through The Self Made Men in the future. With her experience in mathematics, Alexa is a vital part of the company as a whole. She is the accountant and book keeper, but also a speaker and educator. As a cisgender ally, she offers a different perspective to audiences learning about Trans* culture and unique support for those romantically involved with a member of said community.
Goals - Graduating in 2013 with a bachelor of arts in mathematics and a minor in business administration, helping to fight animal cruelty, becoming the first cat lady ever to get married, and
